The exhibition "WHAT?! From Plants?" at the Museum of Garden Culture in Illertissen is currently showing everything that can be created from plants.
Curator Dr Reinhard P. Hemmer has brought together almost 300 exhibits, all of which have a plant origin. A Formula 1 tyre made from dandelion latex, car seat covers made from tree bark cloth, printer's ink from plant dyes or fibre products such as coffee fibres. Here, coffee grounds are "incorporated" into the textile fibre using a patented process. Coffee fibre is used in hiking clothing because it absorbs body odours, is durable, does not wash out and protects against UV rays.
Or in the field of music. A XAPHOON (pocket saxophone) or even piano keys do not have to be made of tropical hardwoods. By means of a special impregnation and high-pressure process, domestic spruce and maple wood is "compressed" and can thus be used for the construction of musical instruments.
Or an example from the field of BIONIK - the poppy capsule. The fine seeds of the capsule are evenly carried out of the circular holes and distributed when moved. The salt shaker was born.
FAKES also exist in the plant world. Cheap saffron made from the flowers of the safflower or bamboo socks that are not socks at all. These are knitted from common viscose fibres obtained from bamboo cellulose by a chemical process.
Under the heading "GUMMIP PLANTS" you will find our FAKTIS, which consists mainly of rapeseed oil or castor oil and from which, among other things, erasers are made. The Faktis also shows that vegetable oils can be used very well in everyday products and thus make a sustainable contribution to our environment.
D.O.G is pleased to be part of the exhibition! For those interested - more D.O.G exhibits and many more examples from the plant world can be admired at the garden exhibition in Illertissen until 30 September 2023. For further information, please visit: www.museum-der-gartenkultur.de
